Alaska Adventure 06
Aww yeah, just 2 days until Paresh and I take off for Alaska.
We're going to start out in Anchorage, rent a car on Saturday and drive down to the Kenai Peninsula where we're going to take a cruise to see some glaciers and whales. Hopefully some of the killer variety!
Then we're going to fly into bear country (like Grizzly Man only with a happy ending...) They recommend a full rain suit for the adventure so I bought a cheap ass suit at an army surplus store. I know you all want to see a picture of me in that get up but hopefully I won't be needing it as my friend John was kind enough to lend me a nice windbreaker/raincoat thing. It's bright red. Hopefully red is soothing for bears as opposed to "sending them into fits of rage."
Then we're going to take a train up to Fairbanks where we'll catch a plane for some "flight seeing" -- see I got the lingo down already. We'll fly into the Arctic Circle and spend the next day chilling with some natives -- a full on ceremony, the whole deal. I wonder if it's like Sturbridge Village, some fake re-enactment of a time of old(e) and after we leave they go back to their iPods or if it's the real thing. That's just what the ignorant white man would say, isn't it?
We then take a train over to Denali State Park on June 30, which is Paresh's birthday. We're gonna celebrate right, kick it karaoke style, get Paresh up on stage, the whole deal. Just kidding, Paresh (not really.)
The next day we're going on a 13-hour bus tour through the park. Yeah, that's right, one - three. It includes a meal and a stop or two to do outdoorsy things like a hike and, well, hike some more.
We then take yet another train back down to Anchorage and fly back on the 3rd.
Depending on what sort of Internet connection we have at our various hotels and bear dens, I'm gonna try to update the blog and post pictures so you can follow us along the way.
